The Wichita Guitar Society presents a recital program every first Saturday of the month. It features performances by many of its members, as well as, guest performances by visiting artists. It is free and open to the public. The recitals are informal, but there is a printed recital program at 3:00 pm which lasts approximately 50 minutes. It is followed by a short intermission. An open recital period begins at approximately 4:00 pm. This open recital period could last until shortly before 4:45 pm, at which time the meeting closes. Guests are encouraged to perform in the open recital period, but anyone may perform in either period, as long as time permits. In order to facilitate a smooth program we have adopted the following guidelines..
Guidelines for Performance
|
Time is limited. Please, no more than 5 to 7 minutes per total performance, unless prior arrangements have been made. This may happen if we know the program will be a little thin, a rare situation. Let us know how many "selections" you will play.
It is important that we give guests the opportunity to perform. They help our society grow. There may be several people wishing to perform in the open period.
Please get your program performance pieces in early in order to get a spot. Don't wait for us to call you. Preference may be given to early requests, those that have never performed, or not in a while. Try to let us know by the Monday before the meeting by emailing wichitaguitar@sologuitarist.net or calling 263-7561. It is anticipated that in the future, the recital program for meetings will be posted on this website in advance of the meeting.
All styles of playing are permitted. While the society has a long tradition of classical players, and will continue to aggressively promote the classical guitar. It recognizes that there are other tasteful styles of music in existence. We will try to provide a balanced program with emphasis on fine art. We wish to provide a forum that guitarists of all levels and styles can appreciate.
Our emphasis is on the guitar, but it's close relatives, such as the lute, vihuela, harp, dulcimer etc. are certainly welcome. Ensembles, including mixed ones, are encouraged.
